Special Needs at Home

This topic so wide and varied that it's hard to cover in one sitting.  A child with "special needs" in an educational setting could mean different things to different people.  For the sake of this blog, my focus here is on the needs that we're facing and the resources that we've found that have helped.  We have used many different things to stimulate learning in our homeschool and have found that some things work better than others.  The opinions on this page are simply that, my opinions.

One of the most useful places for us to gather information is LDOnline.  This site is a wealth of info on learning disabilities and how to find help.  It offers a free newsletter that you can sign up for and a wonderful parent's page.  Check out the State information for resources in your area.

My next favorite website is Wright's Law.  Although we don't have the worry of an IEP in our school, this website is also great for gathering info and doing research.  Check out their Yellow Pages for more resources.

Another great resource is HelpGuide.  They have a page devoted to warning signs to see if your child has a learning disability and what to look for.  I only wish I had found this information sooner!
